Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for Early Head Start or Head Start Preschool, an applicant must be determined age and income/categorically eligible.

Age Eligibility
- Early Head Start (EHS): Pregnant Women or children 0-36 months.
- Head Start Preschool (HSP): Children 3–5 years old (not yet in Kindergarten)
Categorical Eligibility
- Applicant is in Foster Care
- Family is receiving CalWORKs/TANF
- Family is receiving CalFresh/SNAP
- Applicant or family member living with and supported by the child’s Parent(s) or Guardian(s) is receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Income Eligibility
- If your family is a 2 parent or guardian household, we will need income from both parents/guardians
- A family’s gross annual income must be at or below the current Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Head Start takes other circumstances into consideration

What if I can't get proof?
We will generally accept a written statement as a last resort if you cannot get the documents needed.

Hardcopy/Fillable Application
Applicants who apply using a hard copy application should receive an application receipt in the mail within 7 business days of submission.
We will keep your confidential application on file until your child is no longer age-eligible for services.
