The Fatherhood Program

The Fatherhood Program strengthens the parental and primary educator role of the father; increases father participation and leadership in a variety of community settings; and A father hugging his son. strengthens the emotional bond between father and child. The approach engages men by creating awareness of the unique and invaluable contribution they provide to their children’s healthy development. The Fatherhood Program offers the following:

Male Involvement Workshops – bilingual, educational seminars where men interact with a variety of community agencies that encourage parent involvement and self-development. Participating agencies include recreation departments, adult schools, libraries, police departments, YMCA’s, Boys and Girls Clubs and other local organizations.

Support Groups - a relaxed environment where a small group of fathers exchange information on a variety of topics. These groups provide moral support, information, and ideas to promote involvement between father and child.

Support group topics include: Building Your Child’s Self-esteem, Your Goals and Values, Embracing Diversity, Understanding Stereotypes and Discrimination, and Transition to Kindergarten - Getting Your Child Prepared.

Father/Child Activities – organized events where men spend quality time with their children in both fun and educational environments. Some activities that occur include: bowling events, fishing trips, fun in the park, family fun events, barbeques and soccer tournaments.

Trainings – specialized instruction provided to men who want to be stronger advocates for their children and better leaders for their communities. Training topics include: meeting facilitation, engaging parents, goal setting, and conflict resolution.
